| PURA (Provision of Urban amenities in Rural Areas) is a natural and timely evolution of the RICHES (Rural Industries Community-Housing and Essential Services) project, originally conceptualized by the eminent technologist Padmabhushan Dr. P.V. Indiresan, for the all round development of the rural Indian society. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the President of India and one of the most illustrious Indian scientists, integrated the idea into ‘Vision 2020’ which envisages India to attain a developed nation status, with world leadership in science and technology by the year 2020. |

| The convergence of schemes, the combination of public private participation in area development and the application of appropriate technologies to bridge the rural-urban divide are the synergizing concepts that merge into this revolutionary ‘mantra’ of sustainable development. India does not lack visionary schemes, physical resources and social technologies. What it now requires is a willful, action-oriented, dynamic approach towards the realization of its targets. |
